Chris Kettle

Still Life has been Kettle’s concern for the past 20 years. Having explored the genre and occasionally ‘Turned it on its head’ (ART REVIEW), the last decade has seen his paintings partly inspired by the light and deep tones of the Dutch and Flemish Masters, however his work is not dictated by any of the symbolism of that era, and these contemporary paintings inhabit a subversive and mysterious world all of their own. Behind the initial visual comfort of what may appear to be a familiar Still Life, there lies a rebellion and a reluctance to conform to fashion, commerce or domestic taste.

Kettle’s ‘Terrarium’ painting was one of the three top award winners of the National Open Art Competition UK, judged by Gavin Turk.  His painting ‘Hubris’ was also chosen for the accompanying NOAC exhibition.

Kettle Studied Fine Art (BA Hons) at Cardiff and has shown widely, including Solo exhibitions in  Gstaad - Switzerland, Newcastle and Brighton and group shows in Milan, New York, Miami and London.
